Wednesday is the first day ours students will have a 30 minute period called Armor time. We will have this 30 minute period every Wednesday. Why are we doing this? We know the more we practice something the better we get at that particular skill, habit, or behavior. We chose Armor time because we will equip and enhance our students skills for them to be successful not only academically, but also in your daily interactions with others. Knights wear armor as an accessory to help them increase their ability to do their job better. In our case, we are working with students to give students the tools or “armor” to build our students with the ability to make healthier choices both personally and socially. Our goal is to continue to build our students' positive social behaviors such as kindness, understanding, sharing, and empathy. These are skills that are not always directly taught, nor are they always practiced. We will be intentional about learning these skills along with practicing them daily. Within this 30 minute session we will be focused on our social emotional skill set. Just as we learn and practice math and reading, we will be doing the same with our social skills every Wednesday. Every Wednesday we will have a session with a particular focus. Our teachers will facilitate these sessions and we are expecting positive active participation from our students.

Good afternoon Nippersink Families, I wanted to reach out to the community to let everyone know that one of our summer school buses was in an accident today out on Route 12. Thankfully, all students and both drivers of the vehicle were ok and checked out by our local EMS. Parents/guardians/family members were contacted and our students were able to be released to go home. Thank you to our local police, fire department, and McHenry County Sheriff for their prompt response and taking good care of our students. I hope you all have a great weekend. Dear Nippersink SD 2 Families: Nippersink School District 2 will be starting the 2021-22 school year making face coverings or masks optional for its students while in District school buildings. In addition, the District will continue to ensure that all other COVID-19 mitigations will continue to be implemented with fidelity and to the highest standard. COVID-19 positivity rates and case numbers will continue to be monitored in our community and schools on a daily basis. If the community and school data indicate a significant increase in the positivity rate or number of actual COVID-19 cases, the District may need to return to face coverings for a two-week period of time while the situation is closely monitored by school and local health officials. The Nippersink SD 2 Board of Education and administration are committed to maintaining a healthy learning environment that remains flexible and responsive to the changing educational landscape that COVID-19 can create. A full District plan regarding COVID-19 mitigations for the Fall of 2021 will be released during the week of August 1st. Sincerely, Dr. Tom Lind
