Dear Families, Staff, and Community Members,

As we move into the heart of the school year and the holiday season, I want to take a moment to share updates, progress, recent achievements and future goals at Nippersink SD 2 and Richmond-Burton CHSD 157. We have exciting initiatives underway, all designed to enhance our students’ educational experiences and support their growth, from their first day in preschool through high school graduation.

Academic Focus and Support Initiatives
In Nippersink SD 2, we’ve added a 5th-grade accelerated reading program this year and introduced content interventionists at Nippersink Middle School (NMS) to support students who are struggling in specific content areas. Additionally, we remain focused on increasing the number of students who take Algebra I by 8th grade, strengthening our academic offerings to ensure students are well-prepared for more advanced coursework in high school. We’re also enhancing early intervention programs at the elementary level in both reading and math, so students receive the support they need as early as possible in their education.

At Richmond-Burton High Community School (RBCHS) we continue to expand opportunities for students with added dual credit courses and technical training options. Our partnership with the Lake County Tech Campus has been instrumental in offering over 60 RBCHS students this school year hands-on experience in high-demand fields, giving them a strong foundation for college and career readiness.

Long-Term Facilities Planning
Our facilities play a vital role in fostering a safe and engaging environment for learning. Through the ongoing implementation of our Long-Term Facilities Plans in both Nippersink SD 2 and Richmond-Burton CHSD 157, we’re making steady progress with updates and needed renovations. This year’s projects include replacing aging HVAC systems, roofs and updating our safety infrastructure.

At Richmond-Burton High School, we are nearing completion of the outdoor facilities project, which will provide modern, enhanced spaces for extracurricular activities, PE classes and provide improved campus security for our students. Additionally, the theater space in the RBCHS auditeria has undergone significant upgrades, including state-of-the-art lighting, sound systems, and more. These improvements reflect our commitment to ensuring that our facilities are as forward-thinking as our curriculum.
