Dear Nippersink SD 2 Families:

Last night, September 28th, the Board of Education voted unanimously to move forward into a hybrid learning model, while still allowing families the option to remain in full remote learning. The schedule and times for each schools’ hybrid learning plan will be shared by your child’s principal later this week and will be posted to each school’s web site.

The decision to move into a hybrid learning model was based on the latest guidance from the McHenry County Health Department and the District’s capacity to meet the required IDPH safety mitigations required for in-person learning. However, we will continue to monitor COVID-19 numbers throughout McHenry County and our communities. If new positive case numbers indicate significant community spread of COVID-19, we are prepared to return to full remote learning for the safety of our students and staff.

One of our top priorities as we welcome students back is to keep our learning environment safe and clean for students and staff. We have developed enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols. In addition, all students and staff will be required to wear a mask while inside the building. Social distancing and good hand hygiene will be included in the new daily routine as we gradually begin to return to in-person learning.

The District will be sending a survey to families this week asking each family to commit to the hybrid learning plan or to indicate if they will remain in full remote learning through the end of first semester. This information will allow us to better plan for the resources needed to ensure all students can receive an excellent education regardless of the delivery model.

Additionally, last night the Board of Education voted to refund $117,350 in registration, science, and technology fees back to the families of Nippersink SD 2. More information will follow regarding this in the coming week. The refunding of school fees was done in part to help offset the additional costs families have incurred as they partner with the school district to ensure their child’s education continues while at home.

Finally, I would like to thank all the families in our community for your patience and cooperation as we navigate our way through this difficult time. We will continue to do everything we can within the ISBE/IDPH guidelines to eventually return our students back to full in person learning every day. We ask that you help us achieve this by having your children avoid large social gatherings where social distancing cannot take place, wear a face mask when appropriate, and continue to stress good hand washing practices.

Sincerely,

Tom Lind
