KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT

Online registration for kindergarten for the 2024-25 school year is now open!

Students entering kindergarten at District 2 attend one of two schools: Richmond Grade School or Spring Grove Elementary. If you need help or are unsure which school your student will attend, take a look at our boundary map. You can also reach out to one of the school offices or the Transportation Department.

No screening is required. Previously, incoming kindergarteners were required to undergo an assessment before starting school. After extensive discussions with teachers and administrators, we’ve decided to discontinue that screening process. Among other factors, we found that the eight months between the screening and the start of school is a long period of time; significant growth occurs for young children, both intellectually and emotionally, making the screener results less valuable.

Instead, we’ll rely on the Kindergarten Individual Development Survey (KIDS), another assessment tool we have used for the past 10 years. KIDS is administered by kindergarten teachers during the first 40 days of school and offers a better picture of development, helping teachers provide more tailored support to individual students.
